Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) 84 which has a tag line “ILL WILL” will be on air on May 24,2008 at 7PM PT/9PM CT/10PM ET. This is a live PPV showdown which will be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena. This mixed martial arts event is very controversial and let’s see the result when we watched UFC 84. They said that the title fight event between UFC Lightweight Champion B.J. “THE PRODIGY” Penn and former Champion Sean “MUSCLE SHARK” Sherk will be a painful and a bloody fight. And you shouldn’t missed the controversial fight between Tito “HUNTINGTON BEACH BAD BOY” Ortiz and the undefeated Karate master Lyoto “THE DRAGON” Machida.

Jay Dee “B. J.” Penn is the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion(2008). His family nickname is B.J which stands for “Baby Jay”. He was born on December 13,1978 under the year of the horse. He is an American (native of Hawaii) professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He was nicknamed as “The Prodigy” because of his greatness in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he was known as being very adaptable. He can change his fight tactics depending on the skills and habits of his opponent and because of that was noted as one of the most technical fighter in the UFC.

Do you know why he has guts in the UFC? This is because B.J. Penn is the first American winner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship of the Mundial World. and about his Muay Thai skills? His trainer is the legendary dutch kick-boxer Rob Kaman.

B.J. Penn got the vacant lightweight title after he defeated Joe Stevenson at UFC 80: “Rapid Fire” and join Randy Couture as the only two men in UFC history to win titles in two (2) different weight classes. As Stevenson gave up his back, Penn sunk in a rear naked choke which made Penn won the title.

He can be seen fighting in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Pride Fighting Championships (Pride FC). He became the UFC lightweight Champion on October 14 way back 2006 at UFC 64. Sean Sherk was the first champion since the division’s reinstatement in 2006. But last December 2007, steroid issue broke out that make him stripped of the title. He was tested positive to steroid use. Last July 7, 2007, Sean Sherk defeated Hermes Franca at UFC 73 but after the fight the California State Athletic Commission announced that both of the fighter, Sherk and Franca were proven positive of steroid use. Sherk was fined $2,500 and was suspended ’till July 2008. But UFC President Dana White announced that Sherk had passed the lie detector test that reduced his suspension to 6 months. That is the time that the fight between B.J. Penn and Joe Stevenson became a title fight which is supposedly an interim fight only. When B.J. Penn defeated Joe Stevenson and won the Lightweight Championship at UFC 80, it was announced that the first title defense of Penn will be his fight with Sean Sherk - that makes UFC 84 which we can watch on May 24.

Ultimate Fighting Champion is a Mixed Martial Arts Sports which became popular extreme show in the United States. When I first saw this show, way back 2004, I saw how two man fight with each other. When I first saw this, I thought it’s a wrestling. But as I observe how they play, it’s like boxing mixed with kick boxing. I stared more on the show when I saw how they apply different martial arts technique like judo, Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, sambo, and Muay Thai in one fight. Amazing! How did they do that? And at the climax of the show, I have covered my eyes when the fighter grab his opponent and after that he twisted and bended his opponent’s arm that makes him win the fight. His opponent tap his shoulder to signal the referee that he give up.

In this fight, I’m not sure who will win. B.J. Penn has a superb mixed martial art style. But Sean Sherk is a veteran fighter which has experience not only in UFC but also Pride Fighting Championship. Well, let see what will happen on May 24, if being the most technical fighter will defeat a veteran fighter or if being a veteran fighter defeats the most technical fighter.
