No need for disk. You just have to plug your router to your modem and access your router's setup page. Make sure you know if you are connected to DSL or CABLE PROVIDER.

Check this :

@debbie
The linksys tech tried to reset first the router. Let's take it step by step.
Are you able to access the setup page? If yes, look on the Basic setup tab. What is the Router's LAN IP ADDRESS?
And then go to STATUS tab on the LINKSYS ROUTERS SETUP PAGE. what is the DNS or WAN IP ADDRESS there? Take note of the details on the Basic Setup and Status page because we are going to try to ping those numbers. "Ping" which means test if you those IP addresses or DNS can give a reply.

I am online right now. If you want I can assist you - I'll stay on the line and I'll wait but maybe after an hour, I'll be signing off to take a sleep. You can send message through YM so that we can actually communicate thoroughly or just leave a message here.

I contacted Tech support and I have pasted the instructions she gave me below. I followed everything but still could not connect. I connacted chat again and she told me to go though process again. I did and still nothing.

Kathrena C. (24616):Hi, my name is Kathrena C. (24616). How may I help you?
You: I ma trying to set up my new wireless router with my new laptop. I insert the disc and go through the steps but it keeps telling me I have no internet connection.
Kathrena C. (24616): I see. Is this an initial setup of the router Dabbie or was this working before?
You: Initial setup
Kathrena C. (24616): Let me help you out with that Debbie but before we begin, may I know which country you are based in?
You: US
Kathrena C. (24616): Thank you. May I have the Serial Number of your Linksys router? You can check it underneath the device.
You: CSV01H538551
Kathrena C. (24616): Thank you. May I know who is your Internet Service Provider?
You: Road Runner through Time Warner Cable
Kathrena C. (24616): Thank you. Are you using a Motorola modem?
You: No it isan ARRIS modem
Kathrena C. (24616): Thank you.

Kathrena C. (24616): Is it using an Ethernet cable or a USB cable?
You: ethernet

You: ok
Kathrena C. (24616): But configuring the router will disconnect us from this chat session so let me give you the steps to make sure you complete the process.
You: ok

Kathrena C. (24616): Hi, it's already more than 3 minutes and there's still no response on the line. I will end this session now. I apologize for the inconvenience. For more information, you can visit our Technical Support
You: i am reading your instructions
Kathrena C. (24616): I'm sorry for that. That was a wrong send.
Kathrena C. (24616): What I meant was if you run into problems, feel free to log in to the chat session again. I will be glad to assist you further.

Connection is good. the cable which is connected from modem to your computer should be disconnected and it should be connected on the "INTERNET" port on the router and the other cable connect it to the laptop to any ethernet port (PORT 1, 2 3, or 4) on the router. Go to control panel, network connection, and then right click "LOCAL AREA CONNECTION" and select "STATUS". Then go to "SUPPORT" tab. Select Details. Check the ip address, default gateway, and DNS. Is the ip address something like 192.168.1.x? How about the DNS? And can you tell me your Internet Service Provider? Because sometimes your internet company has different setup that is needed to put on the router's settings. Is it a DSL company or Cable company? if it CABLE company check this : HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT LINKSYS ROUTERS FOR CABLE ISP? If it is DSL company check this:

My son just got his first laptop and a WRT54G2 Linksys router. We used the disc that came with the router and it says it has configured but no internet connection is detected. I have cable broadband with my desktop computer. I disconnected the modem from my computer and plugged that cable into the "internet" slot on the router. I then used the blue cable that came with the router to connect the router (slot 1) to his laptop. Why can we not get internet connection still?
Thanks!
